It is possible to learn How to Make Churros at home with this easy recipe! It yields the perfect amount to create a Churro dessert bar at parties!

What are Churros?
Churros are basically fried donut sticks dusted with a cinnamon-sugar mixture nestled in its delicate crevices. They originated in Spain and Portugal. They are crispy on the outside and and delicate and light on the inside! I love dunking mine in dulce de leche, but they are also delicious dipped in chocolate. I enjoy mine with one of my hubby’s delicious lattes!

If there are 2 things that I love that go together its parties and churros! That’s why I love this recipe so much! It’s a large batch so everyone can get their churro fix! I spoil my family with these a few times a year and it’s usually for one of the boys’ birthday parties. You can divide this recipe to make smaller batches so you don’t have to run to your local Mexican restaurant every time you have a craving! I’m not a big fan of frying but these Churros are so worth it! I’m working on an air fryer version, coming soon!
If you are ever in the Toronto area you have to try El Habanero & Churro Bar! I have ordered their Churros for my boys’ birthdays too and they are always a hit! They make some out of this world creations and even Churro Cakes!!!

Churros: Step by Step
The hardest part about making Churros is definitely the frying. If you can enlist a helper the process goes faster and is way more fun! My 7-year-old loves being the “Cinnamon Sugar Duster”! I just need to do some quality control checks here and there to make sure they are not being over dusted!
1: Combine cinnamon and sugar in a large deep container. I usually use an aluminum pan.
2: Bring butter water and salt to a boil in a large saucepan. I used a dutch oven.
Dough Preparation

3: Reduce heat to medium and add flour all at once to wet mixture. Stir frequently and evenly (with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula) to ensure mixture is incorporated. The mixture will pull away from the sides and form a dough and you will know it’s time to remove it from the heat.

4: Transfer mixture to a Kitchenaid stand mixer bowl (or a large bowl if you will be using a hand mixer.
5: Add eggs and vanilla to bowl and mix with paddle attachment until mixture forms a dough and the bowl feels cool and no longer hot.

6: Place dough to a disposable piping bag fitted with a Wilton #1M Open Star Tip. Meanwhile, heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large frying pan on medium-high heat.

Frying Churros
7: Pipe a six inch length of dough into the hot oil to check that is ready. Cook for 2 minutes per side until a beautiful light golden brown. *If your test churro cooks to quickly or not quickly enough adjust the heat accordingly.
Continue to fry churros about 6 at a time, do not overcrowd the pan or the churros will not cook evenly!
8: Transfer cooked churros to a plate lined with paper towel.
9: Toss churros in cinnamon sugar mixture and transfer to a large platter or rimmed cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Party Churros
Churros are so much fun for parties because you really can create the ultimate dessert bar with dips, drizzles and toppings. You can even make Churro sundaes! We dipped ours in melted dark chocolate chips and topped them with sprinkles. Here are some fun ideas:
Party Topping Ideas
- Cookie n’ Cream: Dip churros in white chocolate and top with oreo cookie crumbs!
- S’mores: Dip churros in chocolate and sprinkle with graham crumbs and mini marshmallows, bonus points if you toast them!
- Salted Caramel: Fill churros with dulce de leche mixed with a pinch of salt! My fave!
- Birthday cake: Dip churros in white chocolate and top with sprinkles!
- Hot Chocolate: Dip churros in chocolate ganache and top with mini marshmallows
The sky really is the limit with how much fun you can have with these!

These Chocolate chip cookies are another great option for your party dessert tables! They are so much better than a storebought cookies!
How to Store Homemade Churros
Churros are best made fresh and eaten warm! However, when you are hosting or taking these to a party, I recommend making them early and then storing them in an aluminum baking dish.
They can be popped in the oven and crisped when ready to serve! We have had leftovers in the past surprisingly, I’ve stored them in an airtight container and again re-crisped them the next day in the oven or air fryer and they are good… but definitely not as good as the first day. They are a decadent treat to make and enjoy with friends and family the day they are prepared!

I hope your family enjoys these churros as much as we do! Don’t forget to enlist some help as frying a batch this big can get a little lonely and tedious lol. They are worth the work as everyone will enjoy them so much! If you make them please tell me how you enjoyed them and what toppings you and your family like! xo Charlotte
